FEBRUARY GROUP LESSON: THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY MUSIC

We had so much fun learning about Disney music this month!! Students played some wonderful songs including, "Siamese Cats", "Zip-A-Doo-Dah", and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight".  For our composer study, we learned about the writers of the music from "Frozen".  We learned that the song "Let It Go" was instrumental in changing the whole plot for the story.  It is so cool to see how music can be used to tell a story.  Everyone did such a great job and I am very proud of them.

Due to some scheduling changes, I have several openings for the remainder of the semester.  The following is a list of dates I have available:

July Group Lesson

This month we learned about my favorite composer, Claude Debussy.  We discussed "color" in music and practiced drawing what we heard from a Debussy composition.  All our performers did a fabulous job with their pieces.  Next month is popular music!!

April Group Lesson

This month's focus was Jazz music.  Some of the performances included, "Dinosaur Stomp", "Ice Cream Blues", and "Cool Breeze Waltz".  We learned about Wynton Marsalis and listened to him perform on his trumpet.  We spent time practicing finding notes on the keyboard and practiced with flashcards.  Thanks to Natalie, Allison, and McKenzie for being my helpers!

March Group Lesson

This month was all about Disney songs.  We enjoyed some awesome performances by some great students. We also learned about the Sherman brothers, who composed songs for many Disney movies, including "Mary Poppins" and "The Jungle Book".  Our theory focus was fingering and finding notes on the keyboard.

December Piano Recital

Our Christmas recital was a great success!!  Each of the students performed very well and they all looked very elegant in their Sunday best.  Thanks so much to the awesome families in Kimberly that I was able to work with!!  I will miss you all.  

October Group Lesson

We celebrated Halloween this month by performing  in our costumes and learning about Edvard Grieg.  He was the composer of "In The Hall of the Mountain King", a song commonly connected with all things creepy.  Each student colored a pumpkin while identifying notes on the piano keyboard.  What a great time we had! I enjoy working with such smart and dedicated students.  Next group lesson is on November 16 at 4:00.
